Electronic Health Records (EHR) FAQs

1. What is the EHR Incentive Programs? How can I obtain additional information on the EHR Incentive Programs?
On the CMS Portal there are several web pages explaining the EHR Incentive Programs. The site contains general information and FAQs. For more information on the EHR Incentive Programs please contact the EHR Information Center at 1-888-734-6433 or 1-888-734-6563 (TTY) or visit the official CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR website.
2. How does EUS support the Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Programs?
The EUS Help Desk does not directly support the EHR Incentive Programs, however, the user ID and password used to log into that application is the same login used for NPPES and PECOS. Therefore, EUS can perform password resets and unlock user accounts; however, that is the extent of EUS' involvement with the EHR Incentive Programs. For more information on the EHR Incentive Programs please contact the EHR Information Center at 1-888-734-6433 or 1-888-734-6563 (TTY) or visit the official CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR website.
3. Can I use my existing NPPES/PECOS account to access the EHR Incentive Programs application?
The same login information will work for all three applications; PECOS, NPPES, and the EHR Incentive Programs applications. However, there are additional steps involved in accessing and being eligible to participate in the EHR Incentive Programs. For more information on the EHR Incentive Programs please contact the EHR Information Center at 1-888-734-6433 or 1-888-734-6563 (TTY) or visit the official CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR website.
4. Why do I have to specify if I want access to PECOS, EHR Incentive Programs, or both? What happens if I do not chose the correct application?
For security purposes, CMS and Authorized Officials need to track who is registering in I&A for PECOS - Medicare Provider Enrollment, the EHR Incentive Programs, or both. All I&A Authorized Officials will automatically have access to the EHR Incentive Programs application. However, all other users will need to indicate during registration if they are registering in order to access PECOS - Medicare Provider Enrollment, the EHR Incentive Programs, or both.

Users can go back into their I&A profile at anytime and request access to either or both of the applications. Once the Authorized Official approves the request, access will be granted.
5. I am interested in participating in the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. What should I do first? Who should I contact for information? How do I know if I am eligible?
Before you get started with registration, please review the official CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs website. This website will provide insight on important program dates, eligibility requirements, contact information, and other resources.

In order to access the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, you must be registered in I&A. If you are registering for Medicare reimbursement payments than you will need an approved PECOS Enrollment record. If you are unsure if you have a approved enrollment in PECOS or unsure of what PECOS is, please visit the PECOS FAQs or the CMS Provider Enrollment website for additional details. If you already have an I&A account and an approved PECOS enrollment, then please ensure you meet the other qualifications for the EHR Incentive Programs. For more information on the EHR Incentive Programs please contact the EHR Information Center at 1-888-734-6433 or 1-888-734-6563 (TTY) or visit the official CMS Medicare and Medicaid EHR website.
6. Do I have to select an application to associate to? Can I go back in later and select PECOS or EHR Incentive Programs or both?
During the I&A registration process a user must select PECOS, EHR Incentive Programs, or both. After initial registration, another application can be added if needed. The request will need be approved before access is granted.
7. My EHR Authorized Official (AO) request has been approved by EUS; however, I cannot perform any registration tasks. Are there additional steps I need to take?
No additional steps are required if you have received confirmation of your approved AO request. However, once an AO request has been approved in I&A, there are background processes that must be completed before the AO can access the application. EUS recommends waiting between 12-24 hours after being approved, before attempting to access the application. This case may be true for end users. Please contact the EUS Help Desk if after 24 hours of approval you're still unable to access the application.
